More Than Survival: How Casa Tabito and Grace & Fire is Working with Mothers to Rebuild Hope

The Crisis Few People See: Childhood Malnutrition in Rural Guatemala. Over 70% of Children in Rural Guatemala Face Malnutrition — But Hope Is Growing Through our partnership of Casa Tabito.

This is what partnership looks like.

Not just in words—but in systems, in stories, and in the lives being changed along the way.

After my conversation with Madeline today, our weaving collective coordinator and the clinic manager at Casa Tabito, I was reminded again why our work with Casa Tabito is so meaningful… and so intentional.

We are building something that honors both the artistry and the woman behind it.

Every weaving is being carefully tracked—by her initials, the month it was created, and its place in her work. Not for organization alone, but for recognition. Because every piece deserves to be known.

Our Goal: Every bag you carry will be connected back to a woman.
Her story. Her hands. Her life.

And we’re going deeper.

Instead of surface-level interviews, we take the time to sit with each weaver… to understand her story in her own words. Over the summer, Madeline will meet with each woman individually—creating space for stories that are real, layered, and uniquely hers.

Because this was never meant to be transactional.
It’s meant to be relational.

What we’re seeing unfold is something we couldn’t manufacture if we tried:

• Women repairing their homes and moving back in
• Mothers creating safe living environments for their children
• Gloria serving on her children’s school committee
• Skills being passed down—Florinda teaching other women
• A shift in atmosphere—from quiet survival to joyful singing during gatherings

This is what happens when work becomes dignified, consistent, and connected to community.

And inside our partnership with Casa Tabito, something else is happening too…

The work is becoming more aligned.
More thoughtful.
More human.

From how we sort weavings…
to how we document them…
to how we share them with you…

Everything is being built to bring you closer—not just to the product, but to the people.

Because what you carry matters.

And when you carry something made with this level of care, intention, and connection…

you carry a story that continues long after it leaves our hands.
