From the Bleachers Before the Game

Updated: May 8

Good morning from home. School was canceled for the kids today due to high and dangerous winds. I wrote these ramblings from the bleachers over the weekend while my middle daughter warmed up for her softball game and am just now posting on Monday morning.

Some people believe ramblings are a waste of time. For me, it’s a way to process and release. I never mind a good word digestion unless it’s a rant about other people or problems without any intention for proposal of solution.

I am proud to be trauma informed and the silver lining to have gone through some extreme traumatic experiences has taught me how to offer dignity and grace to others in turmoil or crisis. The vitality in eliminating elevation above others to invalidate perspectives is subconscious. We never really know what others have been through, what their triggers might be, or how and what they've survived. I lack the desire to extend unwarranted and unsolicited advice to people and their circumstances with the knowledge that we are all capable of making decisions based on our own knowing and callings.

It’s interesting to me, the boundaries and priorities we define throughout our lives. The balance of understanding and holding space needed to recognize when someone is setting a boundary, is not always easy but significant all the same. We all deserve to feel respected, safe, confident, and at peace.

My children are at the age now that I need approval before sharing photos and stories about them online or in conversation. I don't always get this right but I try. There have been situations where I thought a story about them was cute and enduring, where they thought it was embarrassing and perceived it as making fun of. This week I was having a conversation with my son where the final statement from me was “we could be 100 years and still learn something new”. There is never a case where we know it al.l This is a core value, that I hope generates a lifelong intricic curiosity in all of us.

Ray, my Eagle Scout of a husband, went camping this week with our eldest daughters 5th grade class. He came home in full joy after bonding with other parents, camping in tents, and taking care of a group of soon to be middle schoolers. While he was gone, the youngest and I were on our way to school when the back tire went flat. Immediately, I pulled into a gas station, called a friend to take my son to school, called the service department of my trusted dealership, and took my first meeting by phone. I was amazed and so grateful by the support I receive that morning. Even with a flat tire; so much gratitude.

Recently I have been honored to many impactful conversation within my fairly new community. It’s been incredible to share ideas and solutions. In one specific conversation, there was anticipation and excitement around going to Guatemala and immersing myself in an experience where I’m able to work with a nonprofit to serve babies affected by malnutrition. My friend said this:

“I agree. When I travel I want to connect  with the people/culture  around me as well. It’s my favorite way to learn and understand. We have so much to learn from another in our 🌏 . Can’t wait to see what passion this brings out in you and how you will channel this energy. ❤️”

How beautiful is that? It’s so incredible to be surrounded by so much love and compassion. As I start to prepare for this next journey and the season of summer, I pray that I am able to take it all in and make the most of the experience.

Today I am grateful for knowlege, curiosity, family, friends, and the opportunity to serve and create opportunity. What are you grateful for?

I hope you all have a wonderful week.
